Justin Barney of WPLN and WNXP is back at Vinyl Tap with a new name for his night: Barney & Friends.

This time around, Justin is digging deep into sounds from around the world, pulling together records from different countries, scenes, eras, and corners of his collection into a set built for curious ears.

The “Friends” part is literal, too. Bring a record you love and hand it over. Justin will work it into the night, whether it’s a longtime favorite, something you just picked up, or a wild card you think everyone needs to hear.

The new Greta Van Fleet album, PALACE FOR THE PEOPLE, is coming on October 9, but you can hear it first at our palace on Monday, October 5! 

The Adam Ollendorff Trio with Dan Burns (drums) and Kevin Dailey (bass) features pedal steel and guitar explorations of pop favorites from the Beatles to the Bangles, alongside original compositions and improvisations. Ollendorff’s recording credits include Will Hoge, JD McPherson, Kacey Musgraves, and Faye Webster. His latest instrumental single, “Sudden Sunset,” was released by Epidemic Sound and is available wherever records are streamed.

Black eyeliner, flickering screens, and a bassline you feel in your ribs. In Between Days returns to Vinyl Tap like a transmission from another era, with Joe Lekkas of Palm Ghosts dialing in a full-spectrum alternative video night that leans dark, dreamy, and a little dangerous. New Wave, post-punk, shoegaze, goth, blog rock, indie sleaze. It’s all in there, stitched together from the early 80s through the mid-2000s.

Part dance floor, part late-night screening, all atmosphere. Drift into it or give in completely. Expect icy synths, chorus-drenched guitars, shadowy visuals, and those perfect moments where the room locks in and nobody wants to break the spell.

Sofia Goodman Jazz Jam is now a monthly gathering at Vinyl Tap—an open, high-vibe jazz jam led by one of Nashville’s most respected bandleaders.

Drummer, composer, and educator Sofia Goodman sets the tone alongside a stellar house trio, creating a supportive space for musicians to play, listen, and connect. Jazz standards are encouraged, as the jam is focused on musicians who want to explore this rich tradition that has shaped music and culture for over a century. Back by popular demand, Spin Class is the beginner-friendly DJ workshop for women and non-binary friends who love vinyl and want to try their hand at the turntables. Whether you’re vinyl-curious, brushing up your DJ skills, or just looking for a fun, supportive crew, this is the place to be.

The night runs like this: the sign-up sheet goes out at 6:00, and you can reserve a 15-minute slot to get up on the decks. Bring five of your own records, and learn as you spin with WXNA’s DJ Leanne Merritt and Vinyl Tap’s own DJ SHUG guiding and teaching every step of the way. Everyone is welcome to hang, cheer, and soak up the vibes while participants take their turns.

Nashville guitarist and songwriter Kevin Coleman celebrates the belated release of KC Blues, his new album out via Centripetal Force and Ramble Records.

Recorded over two years in bedrooms, basements, and home setups around Nashville, KC Blues pulls from the country blues and folk recordings that first inspired Coleman to play guitar, then pushes them somewhere stranger. Banjo, fiddle, lap steel, jaw harp, organ, field recordings, wine glasses, gopichand, and plenty of improvisation find their way into a record that favors feel and spontaneity over polish.

The album grew increasingly collaborative along the way, with Trevor Nikrant (Styrofoam Winos, MJ Lenderman, Ryan Davis’s Roadhouse Band) playing a central role alongside Tommy Stangroom, J.W. Bird, John Fernandes, and others. What began as Coleman reckoning with the particularly unsettled atmosphere of 2024 gradually turned inward, leaving behind six songs full of exhaustion, uncertainty, humor, and restless experimentation.

Come celebrate KC Blues a little later than planned, which somehow feels appropriate for a record shaped by broken equipment, scheduling conflicts, happy accidents, and following a good idea wherever it leads.
