HOT WAX 10.25.19

THIS WEEK!

Fresh from the press to your turntable.

Tomorrow we get some crisp new releases along with some standards. This week A Giant Dog cover Arcade Fire’s Neon Bible, Grace Potter puts out her new record, James Blunt plays mind games, and Swans release their 15th record Leaving Meaning. Motorhead, Big Star, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Wipers, and the Ramones all see a fresh press this week. Mmmmm….

Often overlooked but a very influential album, Tremble Under Boom Lights, from Jonathan Fire*Eater comes to us from our buddies at III Man. Good work fellas, and speaking of good work. To those who reissued Saves The Day Through Being Cool on pink vinyl, we say thank you. Just when I thought my collection was looking tight you throw this gem my way.

Guided By Voices drops their 4o something million-tenth record. My old buddy Bobby Bare Jr. is out playing with Robert and the crew. I don’t know how his liver is holding up but I know that he’s having fun playing loud guitar in his favorite band.

Everyone loves the opening song from Big Little Lies and the singer responsible for the title song comes out with new music this week. From his debut EP to his latest offering Micheal Kiwanuka has hit the mark consistently with his output. This gentleman makes classy records and this is his second collaboration with producer Danger Mouse. Don’t sleep on this one.

Last but not least, the I.G.G.Y. has some new wax for you this week. You’ll probably have some time to consider this one. Good luck Iggy.

All these records are classics and future classics, to someone, so pick them up. Fresh from press to your turntable.

Hot Wax… come and get it!

VINYL CLUB is for everyone and regardless of your skill level we invite you to sign up for a 15 minute slot to DJ. Bring all your own records and get your set tight because you’ll want to keep all the heads in the place nodding and bobbing while you spin.

Vinyl Club is held twice monthly and is open to everyone. If you’re looking for a professional DJ to wow you with massive drops or slight of hand turntablery then this ain’t your scene. This event is strictly about having fun with your friends. It’s about trying something in public that you may only work up the courage to do after a couple Margarita’s at Chad’s house.

Our friends overseeing the decks will be by your side during your set so don’t fear! Start getting signed in early at 7:30. Needles drop at 8.

HOT WAX 10.18.2019

Serving up this week…

A white hot record from supergroup The Highwomen finds it’s way to wax. Once upon a few gigs ago, I had the pleasure of hearing a young songwriter named Maren start out in town. One Monday night she played a solo set opening for a Kentucky born country singer about to release his first record. Sturgill and she sang to about 30 people that night. Maren and The Highwomen don’t have to open for anyone because how in the hell could you follow them?

Ladies, leave a little room for the fellas if you will. Mark Lanagen’s Bubblegum is a classic for me and I’m looking forward to something new from the QOTSA collaborator. We also have a fresh new record from Jim James in the stacks. I’m always down to hear what he’s dishin’ up.

Don’t over do it on new releases and leave some room for the reissues. It’s a great chance to add some classics to the collection. Stiff Little Fingers, Roy Orbison, Marvin Gaye, Jimmy Page & the Black Crowes, along with the incomparable Etta James see new pressings this week. Sweet news indeed friends.

To round it all out this week we have two reissues from Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit. Jason’s wife and current ‘Highwoman’, Amanda Shires, worked at that previous gig with me. Fantastic people in my book so go out and get a slice of their music.

THIS WEEK

Nashville connections abound in the release stacks this week. Dan Luke & The Raid recorded just around the corner in Inglewood. The 10-song set was produced by a member of Cage the Elephant and recorded by Jeremy Ferguson at Battle Tapes. For good time give it a spin.

Did you hear that Gary Numan was recently spotted in Madison? Word is he was stopping off for some honky tonk at a country lounge. Who knows?

Great stuff on feature this week and great stuff back on deck. Here is the complete line up of what we will have available this weekend for all your vinyl needs. Follow along with updates on upcoming releases on our Vinyl page, and sign up for the weekly newsletter for last minute additions each week.

THANKS Y'ALL!

We wanted to take a minute and thank all of you who turned out this past Saturday for the Eastland & Porter Fall Crawl. It was a great day for us in so many ways and we hope all the participating businesses in the neighborhood saw great turn outs as well.

We saw a lot of familiar faces digging through the crates, celebrating birthdays (looking at you Josh and Mike), or stopping by with the kids for their first record store experience. One of our favorite regulars even brought us some chili from a chili cook off the night before. He didn’t win first place but his smoked chili was number one in our book.

The weather was perfect and we saw a lot of folks leave with smiles on their faces and huge stacks of new and used Vinyl under each arm. Speaking of stacks, we still have great deals on new and used records so stop by and add a few guilty pleasures to the collection.

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by and our friends at. Cafe Rozè, Rosepepper, Jeni’s, Lemon Laine, Welcome Home, Apple & Oak, Lucaya, Oui One, Lilyan James, Dirty Livin’, Hunter & June, Amelia Styles, The Loading Dock, and Dandelion Salon.

Thanks,

Vinyl Tap

Our favorite day of the year is here again! Come celebrate Record Store Day 2019 with us on Saturday, April 13!

We'll be opening an hour early that morning starting at 10:00 AM with as many exclusive RSD titles as they will give us for your collecting pleasure (while supplies last)!

There will be free live music on our stage for all ages starting at Noon, featuring seven bands (!), finely curated by Cold Lunch Recordings, perhaps our biggest and best lineup ever (see below for details)!

Plus, we'll have Vinyl Tap RSD t-shirts, kids' shirts, and tote bags for sale, designed by Caroline Bowman and printed by Life and Limb Printing Company.

Look out for all-day drink specials for those 21+ with ID on libations from our sponsors, Belle Meade Bourbon and Dogfish Head Beer (including Grateful Dead American Beauty Pale Ale and The Flaming Lips Dragons & Yum-Yums Pale Ale), and delicious treats from Nashville's Caity Pies!

We'll be raffling off a Dogfish Head RSD turntable, tapestry, pint glasses, blacklight posters, and vinyl, which are all Grateful Dead American Beauty themed and designed.
